Please make sure to book an appointment for each passport application lodged (e.g family of four members are required to book four appointments).

Applying for an Australian passport during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The health and safety of Australians overseas is our highest priority. Generally, all passport applicants must attend an interview.  If you are unable to attend the passport interview due to COVID-19, please email us at [email protected].

Please note that applicants who cannot attend an interview might be issued with a limited validity (one year) passport.

How Long to get an Australian passport?

The Australian Passport Office (APO) is currently seeing strong demand for passports. For this reason, it is advising its customers to apply for or renew their passport well ahead of their planned travel dates.

The current processing time for passport applications is 6 weeks. A child passport without full parental consent takes much longer.

To minimise processing time, make sure your application includes all the required documents.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) uses third-party software (Setmore) to manage the Embassy’s appointments. Your personal information (including your name and contact details) will be collected by DFAT via Setmore to book your appointment and for related purposes. By proceeding with this booking, you are consenting to the collection of this information by Setmore on DFAT’s behalf for these purposes. If this information is not collected, DFAT’s ability to arrange your appointment will be limited. Your personal information will be handled by Setmore in accordance with Setmore’s Privacy Policy, and by DFAT in accordance with DFAT’s Privacy Policy.

In response to COVID-19, changes have been made to our services.  These changes are intended to protect you (our clients), our staff and the wider community.

Please read the following information/general instructions concerning booked appointments and accessing the Embassy:

  • Note that the Embassy may cease public appointments at short notice in light of measures being applied by this office or the Egyptian authorities in response to COVID-19 concerns.

  • The Embassy reserves the right to admit only the clients applying for/renewing their passports or requesting a notarial service.  Additional visitors (other family members or friends) will not be admitted.  This is for security reasons and also to prevent visitors crowding the Embassy’s waiting area due to COVID-19.  If there is a genuine reason to accompany another person(s), please advise the Consular Section by email prior to the date of your appointment with the reason and provide the other persons personal details (full name and ID card/passport’s details).  Our email address is: [email protected]
