The current processing time for passport applications is around 6 weeks. This assumes you have provided the correct documentation. A child passport without full parental consent takes much longer.
The Australian Passport Office (APO) is currently seeing strong demand for passports. For this reason, it is advising its customers to apply for or renew their passport well ahead of their planned travel date to avoid any delays.

**NEW - Applying for your passport by mail**
Important Notice
It is no longer compulsory to submit your passport renewal* application in person at the Embassy. From 1 December 2022, you will be able to submit your passport application to the Australian Embassy via a courier service. If you prefer to lodge your application in person, please send us your personal information and contact details to [email protected].
*This is only applicable for adult passports renewals with form PC7 and child passport renewal under the age of 16. All other applications must be lodged in person by appointment only.

Adult Passport Renewals

You must be 18 years and over and you will need a passport that:

was issued when you were aged 16 or older
-
was issued on or after 1 January 2006
-
had, when it was issued, at least two years’ validity
-
has your current name, date of birth, place of birth and gender, and
-
has not been reported lost, stolen, or cancelled.

Kindly note the following information for collecting your new passport via courier service :
- As passport collection is the applicant's responsibility, you will have to contact your nominated courier company (DHL, Aramex etc…,) and request the pickup and pay for the shipment.
- Please make sure to email us the scanned copy of the airway bill, shipment receipt issued by the courier company and a signed authorisation letter with the following wording:
I ( your full name ) authorise (the courier company, e.g., DHL, Aramex) to collect my Australian passport from the Australian Embassy on my behalf.
In response to COVID-19, changes have been made to our services. These changes are intended to protect you (our clients), our staff and the wider community.
Please read the following information/general instructions concerning booked appointments and accessing the Embassy:

Note that the Embassy may cease public appointments at short notice in light of measures being applied by this office or the Egyptian authorities in response to COVID-19 concerns.

Note that the Embassy may need to reschedule your appointment at short notice to accommodate other urgent requests or due to staff availability. Please be respectful to staff if you are contacted in this regard.

Arrive at the time of your appointment. You may not be permitted to enter the building before or after your scheduled time.

The Embassy will only admit the clients applying for their passports or requesting a notarial service. Additional visitors (other family members or friends) will not be admitted. This is for security reasons and also to prevent visitors crowding the Embassy’s waiting area due to COVID-19. If there is a genuine reason to accompany another person(s), please advise the Consular Section by email prior to the date of your appointment with the reason and provide the other persons personal details (full name and ID card/passport’s details). Avoid bringing children to the appointments (except passport applicants over the age of 16 years).

You must wear a mask. Please bring your own mask to be worn during your visit at the Embassy.

Hands to be sanitised or washed upon your arrival at the Embassy (hand sanitiser will be available on site).

Remember that some countries may refuse entry to persons with less than six months validity on their passports beyond the period of intended stay. It is your responsibility to ensure you have sufficient validity on your passport for your travel.

You are strongly advised NOT to make any firm plans or pay for tickets until you have received your new passport.

The Australian Embassy may only accept cash payments in EGP. The exact amount will be determined according to the exchange rate applicable at the time of lodging the passport application.
Bank cards payments may only be made in Australian Dollars (AUD) .
