Applying for an Australian passport during the COVID 19 pandemic.
The health and safety of Australians overseas is our highest priority. Generally, all passport applicants must attend an interview. If you are unable to attend the passport interview due to the COVID19 pandemic, please let us know.
Please note that applicants who cannot attend an interview might be issued with a limited validity (one year) passport.
To request an appointment, please email the Consular and Passport Section at [email protected] to request a time for an interview.
It is strongly advised to plan the replacement of your passport well ahead of the expiry date, if you need to travel to ensure you have sufficient time to replace passports and visas where needed. Due to the high demand for services ,the waiting time for appointments with the Australian Embassy in Cairo may be prolonged.
Remember that some countries may refuse entry to persons with less than six months validity on their passports beyond the period of intended stay. It is your responsibility to ensure you have sufficient validity on your passport for your travel.
From 1 January 2016, child applicants aged 16 or 17 will be issued with a 10-year passport. Applications must still include parental consent, and they must be personally lodged by the applicant together with a parent.
Priority processing service is not available in Egypt.
From 1 December 2017, the 66-page frequent traveller passport is discontinued. Demand has fallen sharply, as more countries issue electronic visas and stop using border stamps. Existing 66-page passports will remain valid until they expire. But you will not be able to apply for a new one after 30 November 2017. More information is available on : www.passports.gov.au
