Anzac Day Invitation

"Dear fellow Australian

A note on behalf of the Australian Ambassador to Egypt, HE Ms Stephanie Shwabsky.

…Australians present in Cairo are invited to attend the 2010 ANZAC Day dawn service, to be held at the Commonwealth War Graves site in Heliopolis, Cairo, on Sunday, 25 April.

The dawn service will be an opportunity to recognise and reflect on the sacrifices made by Australian servicemen and women who served, or are continuing to serve, our country in times of war.

The service will commence at 0455 (am) and will conclude at dawn with the playing of the last post and two minutes silence at approximately 0520. Should you wish to attend, I request you assemble at the War Graves site no later than 0445.

At the conclusion of the dawn service, you are cordially invited to a complimentary breakfast at the nearby Sonesta Hotel, Heliopolis.

To assist with transport, the Embassy will be running a shuttle bus service between the Heliopolis War Cemetery and the Sonesta Hotel from 0540 until 0800. As parking near the Hotel is limited, we encourage those driving to leave their cars at the Heliopolis War Cemetery site and make use of the shuttle bus service.
